I also can't stand snoots who dismiss horror as 'stupid' or 'pointless'.<br /> <br />However, I do feel that some people lump quite a few films into the horror genre inappropriately. A film can have horror tropes but it's how it uses these tropes which determines if it's horror. For example, a lot of people have gone on about how Etoile is a lame, non-scary horror but it's really more of a fantasy romance. Just because it has ghosts and an eerie mystery doesn't mean it was supposed to scare. I've seen people constantly replace the 'Drama' tag in What Have You Done to Solange? with 'Horror' when it felt more like a detective thriller with a surprising emphasis on the drama between the characters.<br /><br />But yeah, all the films you mentioned have been seen as horror for the longest time (and with good reason). I wish people took horror films more seriously. Some of them are genuinely 'intelligent'.Terencenoreply@blogger.com
